As you know we’re all animal lovers here at DS Plumbing, and every year we love helping out at all of the charity events we can cram into our busy schedules.
We especially love attending the annual Charity Chili Cookoff that benefits the Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue, and Sit With Me Dog Rescue.
This year’s benefit was held on March 26 at the Barrhaven Legion. Dave, Wendy, and their daughter Holly all volunteered to serve chili to people attending the event.
To make things even more exciting, this year Wendy was a contestant, and took home the first prize veggie chili trophy for her wonderful recipe!
The chilis were judged by everyone at the event. They were given 2 poker chips, and voted by putting a poker chip in the jar next to the chili dishes they loved best.
A silent auction, bake sale, cash bar, 50/50 draw, admissions tickets, and even psychic readings all helped the event raise much-needed funds for these two worthy causes.
Sit With Me Dog Rescue fosters “unadoptable” shelter dogs, providing training and love they need. With luck many can be adopted, but if not, we never give up on them.
Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue helps adoptable stray cats off the street and into loving homes. It also helps manage feral cat colonies with its trap, neuter, return and feral cat relocation programs. It is all volunteer-run and has a no-kill policy. OSCATR may be small, but it’s a registered Canadian charity that does valuable work for abandoned cats in our community.
We encourage you to support both of these worthy causes – 100% of donations goes to helping foster and care for the animals.
