We’re thrilled to announce that on September 23, 2015, we were presented with an appreciation plaque from of the 872 Kiwanis Kanata Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron. We’ve been trying to help them out by sponsoring them, and we’re proud to be acknowledged as one of many businesses who support this very worthy cause.
Air Cadets is a civilian organization for young people ages 12 – 18. The kids learn leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, and to play an active role in the community.
On a regular basis Cadets explore a wide variety of activities, ranging from public speaking workshops to marksmanship to drill team to the marching band. They also participate in annual Remembrance Day activities.
The Cadets can go on a variety of field trips to places like Canada’s Wonderland. There are also numerous camping trips lasting 2 days to 6 weeks that help them learn survival skills and to enjoy nature. Members who qualify and are interested can even learn to fly gliders and small airplanes.
As the kids grow older and gain experience, they are eligible to teach others. In some cases, they are even able to earn money for taking on these training roles.
Most importantly, the teens learn to socialize in a positive environment outside of school. The cost for participating is very low, making this an accessible activity to families from all economic backgrounds.
This very worthy cause faces a chronic lack of funding. While there is staffing and some financial support from the Department of National Defence, the Cadets must fundraise constantly. In order to keep going, the squadron needs to raise about $80,000 every year.
The Cadets themselves play a huge role in fundraising. There are numerous events including cookie sales, dinners, and an annual golf tournament. By participating in organizing and staffing these events, the kids learn organizational skills as well as fund their activities.
Out of This World Plumbing is proud to provide Kanata residents with expert plumbing services in Kanata and wants to give back! Out of This World Plumbing has been pleased to contribute over $2,250 to date, and we plan to maintain our financial and volunteer support for the squadron.
Our children are our greatest national treasure. We’re happy to help support this organization that helps them develop skills and positive social values. If you are interested in donating to the Cadets, you can learn how on their sponsorship page.
